What cookware should I have at home to prepare Simple Feast’s meals?
Although we do the bulk of the prep work for you, we do think the highest level result comes when key steps are done at home. You will need a vegetable peeler, a chef’s knife, and a cutting board for some of the produce; a baking sheet and a couple ovenproof dishes for heating some of the components; and for the cooktop a medium saucepan (about 4 quarts) and a 10-to 12-inch frying pan or skillet. In some cases (especially if you order our larger 4-5 person box), a larger saucepan for boiling water to cook pasta and a saute pan with higher, straight sides will be preferable, but not essential.
We also like simple tools like brushes for oiling a pan or something like putting oil on a tortilla. If you don’t have them, drizzling the oil will do the trick. A rasp grater (Microplane) is a terrific tool for zesting citrus, grating chocolate, or even grating a hard plant-based cheese. You can also use a box grater. Alternatively for citrus zest, remove the peel with a vegetable peeler, scrape off any remaining white pith on the underside, and then coarsely chop the peel.
